AGRICULTURAL ESTATE is unique a concept in Africa and other emerging economies designed to integrate all aspects of the agriculture value chain to optimize farm operations, create jobs, improve livelihoods of communities, foster rural development, boost food security and ultimately grow the economy.

 

Job Creation

Each Agric Estate will serve as a job creation model that will provide direct jobs across the entire agriculture value chain.

 

Food Security & Sustainability

The agric estate project will address the issues of severe food shortages in Nigeria. It will lead to development of a system that supports sufficient and sustainable production of food for consumption and for sales.

 

Community Development

The Agric Estate project will serve as a rural development model in aspects of private sector participation in infrastructure and human capacity development for the States.

 

 

 

BACK TO FARMING

 

Back to Farm is a job creation initiative of CBS Agro for young people. Young people need jobs and growing economies need workers. Historically, farms and rural areas have sent young people to jobs in cities and factories, and this process of global urbanization continues. The question has always been "Where will young people find jobs?" We believe the answer is Agriculture.

 

Agriculture is receiving new attention as a potential source of employment. But for farming to attract young people, it has to be innovative and profitable. They will need to substitute modern technology and managerial acumen for the short hoe and back-breaking labour. CBS Agro will create jobs for young Nigerians through the practice of modern agriculture. We will train young people in modern farming and then empower them for practice.

 

When we talk of infrastructure development, agricultural infrastructure is often the least mentioned, if mentioned at all! It’s not a surprise as people love to talk about power, roads, rail, airports, ports etc. It’s considered “cool” to talk about these others, yet when we talk we forget that we only survive from agricultural produce!  This initiative will run in partnership with the Agric Estate Project and the Government.

 

 

 

CATTLE RANCH

 

In recent times, the negative reportage attracted by Fulani herdsmen seems to have grown geometrically. The basic cause of the clashes is that the herdsmen need access to pasture to graze their livestock. However, many times, their cattle get unruly, trample and destroy crops cultivated land, causing severe loss to farmers. The herdsmen must feed their cattle; the farmers must plant their crops undisturbed.

 

It is against this background the Federal Government came up with the Grazing Reserves concept as a permanent solution to the wanton loss of lives and properties emanating from the conflict between farmers and cattle herdsmen.

With dwindling GDP and the quest for economic diversification, any investment by the government has to be profitable and sustainable. While the major aim of establishing the grazing reserves is removing discord between agronomists and pastoralists living in the same geographic area, the investment has to be sustainable to ensure its success and productivity.

 

CBS Agro seeks to partner with the Nigerian government to establish, develop and operate a profitable and sustainable grazing reserve model that will not only foster peaceful coexistence between agronomists and pastoralists but also improve land use, enhance livestock development, provide social welfare amenities, improve access extension services, generate revenue for the government and ultimately grow the economy.
